There are many men who grew
up without a father in the home, such as my own husband; however, he surpassed
the odds and is a strong, loving husband and father who has managed his
household and instilled in his children virtues and wisdom to be God-fearing
and lead healthy, productive lives.
Some of you can’t recall
positive father figures, because of absence, abuse or loss of your father early
in your life. Statistics reveal the
pervasiveness of increased challenges such as physical, emotional, and
educational neglect faced by children of fatherless homes.
Regardless of your
circumstances, I want to encourage you that the Bible states in Psalm 68: 5 that
God is “a father to the fatherless.” It
is comforting to know that He not only heals our memories, He is faithful and
loves us unconditionally.
On this Father’s Day, I
admonish you to celebrate your father, honor your father, thank your father, cherish
the memories of your father and even if necessary, forgive your father.
As a tribute to honor
fathers, I share the following poem from an anonymous author:
What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad
